Wait on God’s Best
Summer always ushers in memories—the easy-breezy days of yesterday.
As a little girl, I was not a good “waiter,” especially when it came to making something delicious like homemade ice cream.
Raise your hands if you remember the old fashion homemade ice cream makers. You know the ones that had a hand-crank, and you filled up the sides with rock-salt and ice.
Oh, the long, hard work it took to produce such yummy delight.
I can remember sitting on top of the wooden ice cream maker, spinning the crank around and around until my little arms felt like jello.
The sweet-goodness took forever, but once the ice cream chilled, heaven in the summertime arrived, and contentment settled in once again. The tasty treat was worth the wait.
“But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.” Romans 8:24
Forging Ahead
I reflect on my faith-walk, and I realize there are times I am “not a good waiter.” I rush my calling, my purpose, and run ahead of God.
My restless soul leaves God in the dust as I charge ahead because I feel I know what is best. The rushing, crabbing, and striving is exhausting at times, friends.
Maybe you can relate?
His Assignment is Created Just for Us
We pray to God and invite Him into “our best” instead of waiting, and we forge ahead. Friends, God is gracious, and there are times He allows us to figure out our “good intentions” was never ours from the start.
He loves us through our wounds or tiredness and reminds us our faith isn’t about busy but about His best.
Our calling from God is a lot like making homemade ice cream. It may take hard work, and there are times we will feel weary. Then there may be times we need to “rest to set” and wait for God’s best…His assignment created just for us. God will let us know when to move and receive His extraordinary of the next. Then we will know it was well worth the wait.
Questions:
1. Has there been a time you out ran God? How did God redirect your steps?
2. How do you seek God’s assignment today?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving us and creating us to dream and desire to serve You. Will you illuminate our steps to say yes to Your rhythm of what is next, even if we have to wait? Humble us, and may we seek You first in all we do. Amen.

This was so encouraging! I love the ice cream analogy – i’ve never had the opportunity to make old fashioned Ice cream but it sounds amazing!
