How to Find Rest
In the still of the night, as tears roll down my cheeks, I wonder how I can give Jesus my burdens and find rest. When my mind does not shut down, I ask God, How do I do this? How do I leave my weariness at Your feet and get a good night’s sleep?
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Often we read a biblical command and don’t know how that might look like in real life. So here are three peace-giving assurances to remember about our Heavenly Father.
Remember
- God’s faithfulness in your past.
- God is alert, present, and always working. (Psalm 121:4)
- God can untangle the tangled.
Nothing is Impossible for God
Your situation is not the one situation that is too big for God to handle. Nothing is impossible with God. (Matthew 19:26)
Our peaceful rest’s foundation lies in our choices.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
These verses in Philippians are a life-changing prescription for anxiety. When our anxiety and worry settle, we can relax. So here’s the apostle Paul’s RX.
- Pray about everything.
- Tell God what you need.
- Offer thanks for all He has done.
- Believe that His peace will guard your heart and mind as you trust in God.
Words of Truth and Hope
We cannot control life. However, we can control how we respond to difficult times.
Although life’s circumstances try to rob us of our peace and rest, God’s Word offers truth and hope. Friend, practice makes perfect. Each time we fill Paul’s prescription for anxiety found in Philippians, rest becomes easier.
Prayers for a good night’s sleep!
