“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16 ESV
Everyday provides us with the opportunity to show how thankful and grateful we are–to God, to family, friends, and colleagues; for our church, our job, and so much more.
I believe we are to be a model of gratitude. Sometimes it is outside of our comfort zone, but is important for us to tell and show others how much they mean to us and how much we value them.
I was raised to be polite, kind, gracious, and welcoming. It makes me happy to make others happy.
As a child though I experienced a few rough spots and I did not always say the right thing at the right time. But my parents made sure that I knew how to rebound with sincere words of affirmation. They helped me to see how important my words were and are. So, thanking others became a way of life. Showing gratitude to God for all He has done for me, and in me, became a way of life.
Make the practice of gratitude a daily habit. Think about how important ‘thank you’ is. Encourage acts of kindness. Tend to those who need an extra measure of support.
I am always reminded how the smallest act of caring can make the biggest difference in people.
Here are three Scriptures to help you share your gratitude with others.
- “I will give thanks to You, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1 NIV
- “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” Psalm 126:3 NIV
- “Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grown strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:7 NLT
Prayer
Father God, I come to You today thanking You for the gift of family, friends, and those we don’t know yet. We all possess unique talents and abilities and through respect and appreciation we can help others feel valued. Help us to hold each other close and model the behavior You so desire in us. Amen.
Happy Thanksgiving. I’ll be praying for you.
