God equipped me with a high-energy level, a heart filled with words of encouragement and a genuine love for people. I start each morning with an attitude of thankfulness for a brand new day, and for me, it’s like flipping the ‘on’ switch and I’m good to go.
You see getting up in the morning is not my favorite thing, but it is a surefire way to recognize that God has granted me a start to another day on this earth. So, with a shuffle of my feet and one eye open, I head to the shower ready for the wake-up call that’s about to hit me squarely between the eyes.
It’s not that I’m not a morning person it’s just that it takes me a minute or two (or 10) for my senses to return to reality after a night of peaceful slumber.
Once I’m awake though I relish the quiet time to think about the day ahead, prepare myself mentally, emotionally and spiritually for the job I do, and thank God for all He has planned.
I continue my quiet time in the car and I use those moments to have prayerful conversation with HIM. Most passersby would see that as a one-sided conversation, but I assure you HIS part is huge. He hears my every word, concern, emotion and request. There are days I feel sure that He would rather I listened more to His voice and talked less. But He knows me all too well. I always seek to honor His presence and I count our time together as precious moments between father and daughter. You see He doesn’t want me to worry about choosing the right words or organizing my thoughts, because what He’s more interested in is my heart.
God desires intimate conversations with us and He longs to hear about our day, our prayers, our praises and our defeats. Scripture tells us in Matthew 7:7, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Things may not turn out exactly as we want, but we must trust in Him because He is in control of everything.
Walking with God will provide amazing experiences along with surprises, twists and turns along the way. His word tells us in Isaiah 55:8, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.”I don’t want any of this to just be about what I want, but more about me choosing God’s ways instead of my own.
I know that in these prayerful conversations I am taken care of and I am more than okay with that. But I also know He wants me to listen for His voice and when I don’t hear it, I must turn to God’s written word. You see, my dependence on Him is huge because my very existence was first shaped by Him.
So my tremendous amount of energy, my love for people and words of encouragement are His gifts to me. They were by His design and I am forever grateful for the daily time I have with Him.
And, yes when ‘I flip the switch on’ in the mornings, I am good to go for the day! How about you?
As we look to the week ahead I ask you to prayerfully consider:
- How do you handle ‘all the stuff’ you encounter during the day?
- Are you ready for all He has planned for you?
- What is your favorite part of your quiet time with God?
Have a blessed week—now, let’s get started. I’ll be praying for you.
