Romans 12:10
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (NIV)
Mother’s Day is a precious time to remember the women who have played such an important role in shaping who we are. For many of us our mothers were, or are, the center of our family structure. We can include our grandmothers, sisters, aunts, mother-in-laws and special friends to the list of women who have impacted our lives.
Like many of you I came into this world surrounded by women who were loving, caring, strong, compassionate, opinionated (sometimes to a fault), forgiving, flexible, and passionate. And they loved the Lord. Family mattered and sacrifices were made. Were they perfect? No. BUT THEY WERE PERFECT FOR ME.
The qualities and characteristics that represent these women speak volumes. They are intelligent, humorous, love to laugh, straight forward, have high-expectations, sometimes demanding, love to talk, assist those in need, and can cook like nobody’s business.
Do these ladies have a downside? They sure do. Their expectations may be a tad higher than high, they love to talk (just gather two or more together in a single room and try to get a word in edge wise), they are demanding, they sometimes have a need to know your personal business—they say they’re concerned, and they love a good meal.
But through it all, they took care of us, read to us, picked us up when we fell down, comforted us when our hearts were broken, hugged us when we were disappointed, and cheered for us through everything big or small.
They endured hardships, walked through painful times, and worked through issues and circumstances that we might never understand. Mothers are the anchor that holds everything and everyone together. They are a blessing and a gift from God and it is up to us to honor them, encourage them, and thank them for the love, sacrifices, and the many things they did right in the course of raising us.
Treasure them. Cherish them. Love them. Honor them. And above all, be thankful for the time together and thankful they are women of faith.
So here’s to all of the special women in our lives–Happy Mother’s Day and we love you!
Have a blessed week and I’ll see you next time!
