Know When to Rest
Do you long to rest, refuel, recharge, and refill your soul? That makes two of us. The hard part is taking the time to do it. I’ve known for awhile that it was time to step back and take a breather, but finding a stopping point is usually my dilemma.
It turns out I do know how to carve out some ‘me’ time.
So a few days ago I was sitting in a quiet spot beneath some trees doing some writing. After an hour or so I stopped to listen. There was nothing. No sounds. Only complete, uninterrupted quiet. It was then that I realized just how soothing the silence was and how much I needed it.
After an unprecedented school year my soul was longing for a respite. The time had come to rest, refuel, recharge, and refill my soul.
Beloved, do you feel like this at times too?
It’s Time to Unplug
I know I’m not alone, but rarely do I take an extended break from my every day schedule to enjoy the peace and quiet. In fact, some days I find myself pouring so much into others that I leave little time to refill myself.
But God’s Word tells us in Isaiah 46:4 that “He will sustain us.” God assures us that He helps us in every season. He knows when we’re exhausted and needing to rest.
Thankfully, I usually know when I’ve reached my limit of all work and no play. It’s when I resist the urge to unplug or slow down that God gently nudges me to stop. He draws me into His Presence for a time of quiet reflection and meditation, freeing me from a schedule wrought with activity.
Connect with Jesus
Why do we as humans desire to stay plugged in to so many areas that deplete us, rather than drawing near to the One who can replenish and recharge us?
Frequently it’s because we get caught up in the throes of a full life and forget our bodies need a little soul care.
The reminder to slow down helps you to draw strength from the One who gives you courage, calm, clarity, grace, and the capacity to thrive in the chaos.
Jesus is your constant. He is your greatest necessity to make it day in and day out. Plug into Him so He can tend to your heart and refresh your mind. Draw near to Him for He alone fills your thirsty soul and recharges your batteries.
Enjoy the Quiet and Fellowship with Jesus
Jesus often went to a secluded place to spend time alone in prayer. Luke 5:16 says that, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
He spent time in prayer and fellowship with God. This was His time to refuel, recharge, and refill.
Put your faith and hope in Jesus and He will help you navigate the rough places and survive this broken world.
He will keep you balanced, thoughtful, and focused on His truths and promises. He will change you from the inside out and give you the peace you need to move forward. And, He knows what you need, when you need it. Exodus 15:2 NIV
Here are 5 Ways to Rest, Refuel, Recharge, & Refill Your Soul
- Unplug and disconnect from your full schedule and deluge of social media.
- Consistently find a quiet place and plug into God. Pray, reflect, and fellowship with Him.
- Treat yourself to something fun and relaxing. Make it as stress free as possible.
- Be good to your body. Exercise regularly and eat foods that nourish the soul.
- At the end of the day unwind, leave your worries and concerns with Jesus, and get a good night’s sleep.
Reflective Questions:
- What steps do you take to unplug from the busyness and recharge your mind and body?
- What are the essentials you need to help you lead a spiritually healthy life?
- How often do you treat yourself to some uninterrupted quiet time?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, I come to you today with a grateful heart for all You do to care for me. Thank you for loving me and nudging me to remember that I need to rest, refuel, recharge, and refill to keep my body physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. Please help me to give my mind and body the soul care it deserves. And I pray the intentional time with you gives me the peace and tranquiity I need to recharge my spiritual batteries. In Your Name I pray. Amen.
Blessings to you!
My word (well 2) for this year is Be Still. So neat how God brings things to us when we’ve devoted something to our life. Even when we’re not looking for it. Thank you for your words & inspiration.
Annette,
Thank you for your kind words! BE STILL is a great word for the year. It’s hard for us sometimes because we often feel the need to keep busy. God wants us to rest and recharge so we can be our best at what He’s put before us. Thank you for being a faithful follower to Peacefully Imperfect
Hugs to you!

Precious friend, thank you for the much needed reminder to stop and rest with God. How gracious and merciful He is to refill us when we need it.
Leigh Ellen,
Thank you so much! We all need the reminder to be still. God’s gracious reminder to me often prevents exhaustion or burn out so I know He’s looking out for me. I pray you get some rest and recharging this summer so you will be ready for another school year.
Take care.

Thank you Mitzi for the reminder to unplug and listen to God! When we are so focused on other things such as being Busy: that is Buried, Under, Satans, Yolk.
We definitely need to be aware of our time! Satan loves nothing more than when we are too busy for God.
So let’s keep our focus on God!
Robin,
Thank you for your kind words. You are right, BUSY is what the enemy loves most because it distracts us from Jesus. Thank you for always supporting this ministry. Hugs.

Thank you for your kind words. We all can use the reminder to unplug and rest. The noise and busyness distract us from spending quiet time with Jesus–and we know that’s the enemy working hard. Love you!

I don’t know why we wait until we are empty before stopping to refuel. Thank you for the timely words to go away to a quiet place and meet Him. It’s live saving.
Darlene,
We often get lost in the busyness of activities and life before stopping to rest and refuel.
God longs for us to rest in His presence and peace. I am as guilty as anyone but I am trying to pay closer attention and give myself better soul care.
You are right that spending time with Jesus is life-saving. Thank you for your words. Blessings to you.
