Everywhere we look, we are reminded that February is the month of love. We see all the products in the stores through displays and advertisements. We take part in celebrations and buy our fair share of cards, chocolates and flowers. Why do we care so much about this day? Because we want to show those we care about the most that we love them. As I was thinking about this month I began to wonder why does there need to be one specific ‘love’ month or day? Why don’t we celebrate loving one another with this kind of passion all of the time? It’s not about the material things or the celebrations. It’s about making the world a better place. It’s about loving others as Christ loves us ALL of the time.
Recently, I read a Twitter post asking for people everywhere to join together and make a 100 people happy. That is a great idea. So, is paying it forward and doing for others as you would have them do unto you. So, is participating in ‘Random Acts of Kindness.’ I love doing for others and I made the conscious decision a long time ago to let people know how much they mean to me. Many times it is anonymous; other times it’s more tangible. You could send a note or special card, offer a word of encouragement, provide a warm smile, a hug, or a genuine, ‘I love you.’ With today’s technology it could also be through a text message, a Facebook post, or a tweet. The point is we have so many opportunities to show His Love at all times; but how we do it is up to each one of us and our creativity. We can call it whatever we want, but it comes back to the same thing–loving one another.
God makes it very clear how He wants us to love. If we are to love others as He loves us then we must be committed to Him and follow Him. Make no mistake, we are able to love to the extent we do because of Him. 1 John 4:7-9. If we want to be a light to others we need to treat others with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and peace. Colossians 3:12. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to share those words with a friend, family member, acquaintance or colleague? If you were writing on the hearts of the people you love, would those be a few of the words you would include? Just as He loves us all of the time, so must we love one another. John 13:34. HE is after all, the King of Our Hearts.
So, as we journey into the week ahead, think about the people around you that show you on a daily basis how much you mean to them. In return, think of ways you can show others how much you care about and love them. Go ahead, take a chance and make somebody’s heart happy. I’ll be praying for you.
