Welcome back to week two of “Unshakable Love.” Love that’s unshakable never changes. It’s constant, steadfast and enduring through even the most difficult circumstances. God’s love for us is unshakable. Let’s dive into this point a little more by looking at a time when Jesus showed unshakable love to a man afflicted with leprosy.
“A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said. Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.” – Mark 1:40-44
“If you are willing…”
They were his last words of hope.
Because of a rash, society had declared this man unclean and no one would come near him.
No one except for Jesus.
When the man knelt at His feet, Jesus looked upon him and was filled with compassion. With eyes of love, Jesus saw what others did not – the man’s heart. He saw his need for a love that wouldn’t reject him based on his condition. Then Jesus did what no one else would do, he touched him.
“I am willing,” Jesus said.
With one touch and three words, the man was healed.
God’s unshakable love was willing to touch him when others ran from him. The thing that caused society to deny him, propelled him into God’s love. Now, he was free and the label of unclean no longer had a hold on him.
Why?
Because He came near to Jesus.
When we come near to Jesus, His love comes near to us.
So often the enemy tells us we can’t go to Jesus because of a habit or hang-up in our lives. But the man with leprosy reminds us that there is nothing about us that is repulsive to Jesus. He longs for us to bring all that we are and come to Him. When we do, He lavishes His love on us.
Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
No matter what makes us feel unlovable, the truth is Jesus still loves us. Nothing can shake His love for us. He loved us before we were born. He loved us before we knew Him. And, He will continue to love us when we end up in unlovable places. This is because His love is based upon Himself and not upon us. Our actions cannot change His love for us. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us more or less.
Jesus’ love is constant, enduring and unchanging. We can be assured that He will welcome us into his heart at any time.
Could you use an extra reminder of His love today?
Is there a need you want Him to come near?
Like the man with leprosy, we can kneel at his feet and say His name.
When we say His name, we invite His power and presence into our circumstances.
So, go ahead, whisper His name.
He’s waiting for you.
Heavenly Father,
Here I am. I’m kneeling at your feet and offering myself and all that’s on my heart to you. I pray for you to have your way in my life and remind me of your love that’s always constant, enduring and unchanging. You are my everything, Lord. I love you.
In Jesus Name,
Amen.
