Cultivate a Joy-Filled Life
Every day we have the opportunity to cultivate a joy-filled life. How can we do it? By growing our relationship with Christ through prayer, studying Scripture and practicing joy-filled living through obedience and faith.
Living a joy-filled life is knowing God is in control of every situation. It’s trusting Him and knowing that everything is going to be okay. It’s praising Him with gratitude in all situations every day.
Finding Joy
Our lives are not perfect. Struggles abound and yet we are left to wonder what it really means to be joy-filled. Where does lasting joy and happiness come from? The Bible clearly states the connection between joy and happiness, and I for one, love that happiness is found on the inside and joy comes from above. So it’s happiness + joy that equals joy-filled.
According to Brene Brown, “A joyful life is not a floodlight of joy. A joyful life is made up of joyful moments gracefully strung together by trust, gratitude, inspiration and faith.”
At some point we will experience a difficult situation or a life altering event that makes us wonder how to be joy-filled when we are mired down in our circumstances.
Filling Our Hearts with God’s Word
How we handle the tough times when they attempt to overwhelm or stress us out will be our calling card. We are to give our burdens to God and study His Word because focusing on Him helps us weed out the things that get in the way of living a joy-filled life.
Memorizing God’s truths adds an extra measure of comfort and courage so we can be steadfast as we meet life head on.

Thank you for this post. The quote above by Brene Brown is beautiful. This post reminds me that my life is a garden..and I must tend to my garden to have the good things grow and not let the weeds take over. Just like a garden, it doesn’t all come together overnight- it takes time and then we have to do something all over again. I think sometimes we are caught up in the “I want it now ” convenience attitude of today’s world- instant gratification and quick fixes- when we should be keeping our eyes on our own garden and the One who provided the garden in the first place.
Heather, thank you so much for your beautiful response. I will remember the garden wisdom you have provided and you are correct–we must keep our eyes on our own garden and tend to it well. Blessings to you.
Mitzi,
This is beautiful! Thank you for reminding us that our lives will be joy-filled when we decide moment-by-moment to live joyfully no matter what comes our way.
One thing I had never thought about is that happiness is a choice and joy comes from above – I love that and will be carrying it with me for a while!!
Blessings to you,
Leigh Ellen
